Donna Haraway’s Dreams

Nigel Thrift

University of Warwick

This commentary argues that Donna Haraway’s still remarkable ‘Manifesto for Cyborgs’ provided one of the first windows on the invention of a different kind of world, one in which environments figure and bodily registers expand. In her attention to bioscience she was clearly one of the first to remark on these developments. But, or so I argue, she may have underestimated their generality and their grip, not least because of the comparatively light imprint of the economy and space to be found in her work.

Key Words: capitalism • Haraway • spatial atmosphere
